This year’s Secret Gardens include the private, residential and business gardens and landscapes of the King William Historic District. Explore these unique outdoor spaces and have a chance to learn about native plants, landscape architecture, and water conservation-minded landscapes from docents. Participants will receive a gift bag containing maps of the gardens open for the tour, information on how to enhance their own landscapes while conserving water, SAWS conservation rebate and rewards program information, and more.
The Secret Garden Tour will have 14 locations (12 residential landscapes and 2 businesses). For the tour start – all Registered Participants will be emailed a map on May 17th that has all 14 houses/locations numbered. There will be a Green Spaces Greeter at each location to check registered participants off, give them a Secret Garden Tour wristband, and a goodie bag with a large foldable map/brochure of the Secret Garden locations. Each participant can choose which house you would like to start with, how long you want to meander through the garden or landscape, and which house you would like to go to next. There are some houses that are in close proximity to each other and you can walk from house to house. This is a paperless ticket tour – no ticket needed as we will have a list of the registered participants at each location. No matter which house you start from, the first one you go to will check you off from the registration list and give you the wristband & goodie bag. The wristband will let all the other location greeters know that you have been checked in. You decide your tour path – and you can visit all the houses/locations for as long or short as you like.
An optional luncheon is at another secret garden, The Monty & Ivy Hall, a garden full of history itself! Enjoy lunch, live acoustic Spanish guitar, Milberger’s Nursery live radio show, silent auction, and a chance to meet and chat with some of the San Antonio-area’s gardening experts.
All proceeds from the Tour and Luncheon will benefit Green Spaces Alliance.
